Sydney was a great experience…

I lost my semi-final in the last 20 seconds and understandably I was shattered and gutted and all of those nasty feelings. But I did learn a lot, got to join in on the joy of my team mate Jess winning her division, the pain of seeing Lachie being absolutely ripped off in his fight and the pain of Thiago losing his final as well as watching many amazing fights. I got over my own disappointment pretty quickly though and am now happy,  fully re-focused and training for the Mundials.

I had a bye, felt comfortable and on top on points in my 1st fight, but unfortunately my injured knee got reaped pretty badly and my opponent disqualified. In retrospect I fought well in my semi, but did not capitalize on some opportunities. Full credit to Demi, who fought very well and went on to win the ticket. In the end I was stoked to be able to get through without further damage to my knee.

I drew inspiration from so many things that weekend. The final between Kim and Demi had us all on edge. Heartbreaking for Kim to lose in the last seconds and so much joy for Demi to win. Both handled it so well.

Terrible quality - but this is behind the scenes of women's BJJ. Biggest hug in the world for Kim Cousins.

Watching the girls’ purple to black division did not disappoint.  Jess was awesome coming back from an injury, Sunny improved out of sight and has one of the best attitudes in the business, and Maryanne dominated once again.

Watching the big boys fight is always good… Carlos, Lachie, Thiago Stefanutti and Braga, Leo Arruda, and Kit just to name a few. They have probably been doing BJJ when I was still at primary school and never knew it even existed. Always reminds me how early I am in my BJJ journey and how much I have yet to learn and experience.

Next stop in Victorian Titles, then training camp for Worlds and then the Worlds… super excited. Training has been intense, but fun. I am learning a lot, in a great routine and have some awesome gals and guys willing to train with me.

I’m one happy girl!
